EnviTec Biogas garners “Machine of the Year” award at AGRITECHNICA 2009

Biogas plant operators can save as much as EUR 20,000 per year

Lohne/Saerbeck, 18 November 2009 – EnviTec Biogas AG garnered the “Machine of the Year 2010” award at this year’s AGRITECHNICA (Hannover, 10/14 November), the world’s largest trade fair for agricultural equipment. This prize has been awarded by the technical editors of Deutscher Landwirtschaftsverlag (dlv) since 1997. EnviTec beat out the competition in the “Renewable Energies” category and fetched the prize for the development of “EnviTec Feedcontrol”. This system controls and monitors the feeding of input materials such as liquid manure, energy maize and whole crop silage. The bottom line: operators of biogas plants with a rated electrical output of 500 kilowatts can save as much as EUR 20,000 per year.

“The verdict by this panel of international exports testifies to our pioneering role in the biogas sector,” said Kunibert Ruhe, Chief Technical Officer of EnviTec Biogas. “Our Feedcontrol system is attuned to market needs and once again demonstrates our leadership.” The system helps operators of biogas plants achieve optimum capacity utilisation. Steady production is dependent on regular feeding of bacteria into the fermenter. Feedcontrol adjusts the feeding intervals flexibly to the required quantity of biogas, thereby obviating the need for fixed feeding times. Apart from highlighting the system’s efficiency-boosting features, the jurors made particular mention of its online process control functionality which ensures high degrees of operational reliability and process stability.

A total of 350,000 trade visitors, including 77,000 from abroad, mean that AGRITECHNICA 2009 marked a new record. The trade fair was a resounding success for EnviTec as well. Products and services along the biogas value chain were on display at the company’s 200+ square metre stand. Olaf von Lehmden, CEO of EnviTec Biogas, said: “We had numerous promising talks and note a marked improvement both in terms of demand and the willingness to invest. Biogas is much in demand by farmers, industrial companies and capital investors not only in Germany but also on an international scale.” Building on its diversified range of biogas plants, gas refinement plants, fermentation residue processors as well as its Europe-wide sales network, the company is eminently positioned to capitalise on the opportunities which lie ahead.

EnviTec Biogas AG covers the entire value chain for the production of biogas - including the planning and turnkey construction of biogas plants as well as their commissioning. The company provides the biological and technical service and also offers the full plant and operating management. In Güstrow, in the German state of Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania, EnviTec built the world’s largest plant for the production of biogas to natural gas standards with a thermal output of 55 megawatts. In addition, the company also operates its own biogas plants. Today, the company is represented in more than 15 countries throughout Europe and as well in China and South Korea. In 2008 EnviTec generated revenues of EUR 101 million and EBIT of EUR 3.2 million. The EnviTec Group currently has about 377 employees. Since July 2007 EnviTec is listed on the Prime Standard segment of the Frankfurt Stock Exchange.
