Lohne/Saerbeck, 15 January 2009 –EnviTec Biogas AG is one of the first biogas plant manufacturers to respond to the stricter legislation on formaldehyde emissions from the conversion of biogas into useable energy, which came into force at the beginning of the year. The company has developed an effective and cost-efficient catalytic process for the reduction of formaldehyde. Existing biogas plants can be retrofitted with the integrated solution, which is tailored to the technology of the EnviTec plants. EnviTec Biogas thus enables plant operators not only to comply with legal regulations but also to produce renewable energy in an environmentally-friendly way. At the same time, the profitability of the plants is increased, as the additional investment to achieve compliance with the new formaldehyde limit of 40 mg/N3 will be subsidized through the emission minimisation bonus (“Emissionsminimierungsbonus“). This new bonus amounts to EUR 0.01 per kilowatt hour for the first 500 kilowatts (kWel), which means incremental revenues of up to EUR 40.000 p.a. for plant operators running a 500 KWel plant. As additional benefit the catalytic process enhances gas quality in total thereby reducing both abrasion and corrosion of the gas engine and other components directly exposed to the gas. Thus it ultimately increases overall plant efficiency.
The catalytic process reduces both abrasion and corrosion of the gas engine and other components directly exposed to the gas thus creating additional benefit. It enhances gas quality in total resulting in an increased overall plant efficiency.
“As an innovative company we have started early on and tested various techniques to reduce formaldehyde in reaction to the new requirements from the EEG and strived to develop a best in class-solution for our plant operators,” says Kunibert Ruhe, Chief Technology Officer of EnviTec Biogas AG.
“We are convinced to provide our customers today with a high-quality solution that allows for significant added value and once again delivers prove of our technological leadership.”
EnviTec Biogas AG covers the entire value chain for the production of biogas - including the planning and turnkey construction of biogas plants as well as their commissioning. The company provides the biological and technical service and also offers the full plant and operating management. In Güstrow, in the German state of Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania, EnviTec builds the world’s largest plant for the production of biogas to natural gas standards with an electrical connected load of 22 megawatts.
