Lohne, 20 April 2016 – Following the successful start of construction work on the first EnviThan gas upgrading plant in Denmark, EnviTec Biogas AG announced two further construction projects. With the signing of contracts for two biomethane plants rated at 396 Nm³, the biogas all-rounder from Lower Saxony is actively pursuing the growth strategy that it launched in Denmark last year.
Sited in Otterup, in the north of Funen, the two new plants will be built as an annex to the existing biogas facilities of other producers, which use grass silage, liquid manure, straw, dry chicken manure and glycerine, and will be connected to the local gas network before the end of 2016. Steen Rasmussen und Lars Nielsen, the two clients and operators, had been particularly impressed with the EnviThan membrane technology EnviTec has been using since 2012 and its flexibility – even in operation with plants from competitors. “After touring the plant in Sachsendorf, the technology’s high yield of over 97 percent by volume of biomethane while using an especially environmentally-friendly and cost-effective process simply left us with only one sensible option: EnviThan,” says agriculturalist Rasmussen.
“These two transactions mark a further milestone in our development of the European biomethane market,” says Lars von Lehmden, director of EnviTec Anlagenbau. “At the same time, the confidence shown by our customers confirms that we continue to be one step ahead of the competition in terms of our technological expertise.” Once construction starts, EnviTec will field a team of three employees plus a project manager in Denmark for a six-month period.
According to Germany’s economic development agency Germany Trade & Invest (GTAI), Denmark intends to become completely independent of fossil fuels by 2050. The country has set a target of using the half of the liquid manure produced by the agricultural sector for biogas generation by 2020. The Danish Government has therefore been subsidising biogas plant construction since 2012. “The terms of the funding programme are fixed only until 2020, however,” von Lehmden points out. “While the current level of investment confidence is high, we therefore expect that investors and operators alike will be looking to the government for new incentives.”
