637 kW EnviWaste plant put into operation in Meuse (France)

EnviTec technology for converting residues into biogas scores in France

Lohne, 14 April 2015 - Residual material and byproducts are produced in all production plants, be it in the agricultural or food processing industries, cosmetics sector or in livestock breeding. The quantity of organic waste produced by the citizenry is also significant for communes – about half a ton per year per person. The Biogas-Allrounder EnviTec Biogas, via the EnviWaste technology, offers a solution that, at the moment, has especially won over the French market. “With EnviWaste our customers can convert their waste materials into energy and afterwards use it as valuable fertiliser,” says Christian Ernst, manager of the EnviTec branch in France.

In future Fabrice Noël plans to take advantage of the conversion of residual materials into biogas. The operator of the 637 kW EnviTec biogas plant recently commissioned in the French department Meuse, in the Lorraine region, had done a thorough research of the technologies introduced, before the beginning of the construction. “Apart from the reliability and quality, the method used in the production of biogas was also important to me. I was particularly impressed during my visit to the EnviTec plants in Ribeauvillé for Agrivalor Energie and Agri Energie in Normandy,” says Noël.

His plant, which has been operating successfully with agricultural waste since 19th January, is equipped with the EnviWaste technology in order to digest also waste material in future. The plant built by EnviTec therefore has a pasteurisation unit which will be necessary for the use of agricultural waste and other byproducts in future. Animal by-products and organic waste must be heated at 70 degrees Celsius for one hour, in order to respect the EU regulation. With a total capacity of up to 5,000 tons per year the pasteurisation technology helps in cleaning the waste.

The pasteurisation technology (6,300 t/a) used by EnviTec Biogas is also the centrepiece of a new plant project in Créhange in the French region of Lorraine. The 100% waste plant "Humus Innovation", which will be operated completely without agricultural residues and energy crops, is already set for commissioning for the second quarter of this year. The 500 kW plant, whose fermentation technology was built by EnviTec, is located on the premises of the waste management company Terralys, which is also the operator of the plant. Flotation fats, stomach and intenstinal contents, blood, and compressed and unpacked food waste will serve as input materials.

In total, EnviTec Biogas has already planned and commissioned five biogas plants in France. The company that is headquartered in Lohne runs a branch office in France with six employees and plans to expand its sales: “France has the largest agricultural economy in Europe and therefore stands for great potential for EnviTec,” concludes Sylvain Mesnard, the EnviTec sales manager in France.
