New EnviTec injection project in Lausitz commences operation

EnviThan containers arrive at construction site

Lohne, 2nd October 2014 – The goal is at hand: As of mid-September, the new biogas injection project of Bioenergiepark Forst GmbH & Co. KG has been put into commission. The company-owned operation of the EnviTec Biogas, the biogas all-rounder from Lower Saxony, now adds direct biogas injection to enhance the biogas plant, which is currently also under construction.

The EnviThan containers required for this were delivered in Lausitz and set on foundations at the end of August. "Once all the transport securing devices were removed, we were allowed to begin with the external cabling and install all the feed and discharge pipelines", explains Stefan Laumann, the responsible Project Manager for Gas Upgrading at EnviTec. One digester is already in full operation, providing the gas required for the commissioning of the gas upgrading plant underway since mid-September, Laumann adds.
For feeding biogas into an existing natural gas network, it must first be cleaned and conditioned. In Forst, this is achieved by means of the innovative biogas upgrading technology EnviThan. For an environmentally friendly and extremely cost-efficient process, EnviTec Biogas is equipping its upgrading plant with membrane modules from Evonik Industries. "With over 97% content, the hollow fibre membranes do a particularly thorough cleaning of the raw biogas generated in the biogas plant", says Jürgen Tenbrink, Chief Technical Officer of the Lohne-based company.

While the membranes are installed vertically in the two EnviThan gas upgrading plants in Sachsendorf and Köckte, in the Brandenburg town of Forst a new membrane generation is being applied in the form of a horizontal cartridge system. Changing from vertically to horizontally configured membranes meant that we had to revise and prepare new design calculations. "With this further development, we have taken another great step in cost optimisation so that we can offer our customers even more cost-effective solutions", Tenbrink continues. The horizontal configuration of the SEPURAN Green modules from Evonik now enables the plant manufacturer to install over twice as many modules in only one container.

Once it is put into service, the EnviThan gas upgrading plant with a capacity of 700 standard cubic metres will supply about 60,000 megawatt hours of green energy.
