A strategic role in the implementation of climate targets

Progressive, experienced and internationally recognized – that is the Italian biogas market. With around 2000 agricultural and industrial biogas plants, Italy is the third largest biogas producer in the world after Germany and China, and with its "BiogasDoneRight®" model, it is a pioneer in the use of sustainable raw materials such as residues and wastes.[1] "The model developed by the Italian Biogas Consortium in cooperation with producers and manufacturers is certainly one of the best examples of how the synergy of agriculture and energy can bring economic, environmental and social benefits," says Mario Della Bella, new General Manager of EnviTec Biogas S.r.I.

Della Bella foresees a strong acceleration in the further development of the Italian biogas and biomethane market over the next three years. "The construction and conversion of around 500 plants due to the newly effective biomethane regulation will require a strong commitment from the entire biogas sector in Italy – we at EnviTec Biogas, with our more than twenty years of know-how and our strong team, are right in the middle of it and are proud to be among the most solid and qualified players in the industry," says Della Bella.

In particular, the agricultural biogas sector can benefit from this long-awaited regulation, and can make an important contribution to the Italian energy system. The team of 20 EnviTec employees at the Verona office currently has quite a lot of work. In addition to the increased demand in new projects in the biomethane sector, the EnviTec team is mainly implementing projects for the conversion of existing plants to upgrading plants for the production of biomethane. "In general, biomethane and electricity from biogas are the only renewable energy sources that can be planned, and they will play a strongly increasing strategic role in the implementation of climate targets in the future," Della Bella concludes.
