With almost 300 plants and a capacity of 800 megawatts, the initiators of this letter account for a large share of domestic biogas production, amounting to 8 TWh. In purely mathematical terms, their products supply 1.1 million households with green energy, avoid 3.6 million tons of greenhouse gas emissions annually, and increase regional added value. In order to maintain and further expand these positive contributions, the existing options for gas network connection must be secured. To this end, the signatories are submitting a proposal in the wake of the expiry of the Gas Network Access Ordinance (GasNZV), the amendment to the Energy Industry Act (EnWG) (printed paper 21/1497) currently before the Bundestag and the upcoming implementation of the Gas Internal Market Directive (EU Directive 2024/1788), the following proposal for the continuation of the grid connection regulations for biogas plants to the gas grid:
