Rising demand expected in Italy following increase in subsidies
16 February 2024 - On your marks, get set, go! In Italy, the third phase of the competitive tender to secure subsidies for the construction of new biogas/biomethane plants and conversion to biomethane upgrading plants will soon be over. “This Incentivo Bando 3 phase is offering an increase of no less than 13.16 percent of eligible costs and tariffs,” explains Mario Della Bella, Managing Director of EnviTec Biogas s.r.l. Interested parties have until 20 February to apply for subsidies under the new Biomethane Ordinance, which entered into force in 2023. “There wasn’t much interest during phase one or two, so the market now expects to see an increasing number of applications,” adds Gianluca Visconti, Service Manager at the EnviTec Biogas office in Verona.
Internationally, Italy is the third largest biogas producer after Germany and China. “For us as the parent company, the Italian market is an important team player towards the major, common European goal of climate neutrality by 2050,” says Olaf von Lehmden, CEO of EnviTec Biogas AG, which operates from Lohne and Saerbeck, Germany.
EnviTec Biogas also has decades of expertise in the Italian market, offering an integrated package of services relating to biogas and biomethane production. “We currently have 12 projects in the pipeline for our 40-strong team at our Verona office,” says Della Bella. The Italian subsidiary is also hiring and primarily looking for candidates with skills in construction. EnviTec Biogas s.r.l. can draw on the experience it has gained in completing 45 plants with a total installed capacity of 40 MW.
