Supporting regional value creation and achieving environmental goals

Creating regional jobs while reducing the company’s ecological footprint – Estonian dairy giant Halinga OÜ has set itself these goals with the planned construction and operation of a combined biogas and gas upgrading plant from EnviTec Biogas. The contract that has just been signed envisages the completion of the construction project in the municipality of Langerma in Pärnu County in spring 2026.

“We are proud to be able to use our expertise once again to support our customer in achieving its own environmental goals,” says Maurice Markerink, Managing Director of EnviTec Anlagenbau GmbH & Co. KG. Halinga OÜ is part of the internationally operating Infortar Group. The main activities of the consortium of 105 companies are in the areas of maritime transport, energy and real estate.

“Our biogas plant, including an EnviThan gas upgrading plant, will produce 600 Nm³ of biomethane per hour from the liquid manure and biowaste generated on site,” explains Raul Peetson, Managing Director of Halinga OÜ. “With the combination of a regional circular economy and renewable energies, we are creating modern agriculture,” says Martti Talgre, Managing Director of Infortar AS. Together with other partners, Infortar has invested around 30 million euros in biomethane plants. The largest consumers of biomethane are the public transport companies in Tartu, Rakvere and Pärnu. “In Estonia, biomethane is available as a fuel at selected filling stations nationwide,” explains Markerink.

The project, which is financed by the European Union via the NextGenerationEU Restoration fund, contributes above all to regional value creation. With over 3,000 animals and a farmed area of 3,700 hectares, Halinga OÜ is one of Estonia’s largest milk producers and an important employer in the region. To date, EnviTec Biogas AG has supplied three gas upgrading plants to Estonia, whose biomethane is offered as a green fuel by public transport companies. “Our gas upgrading plants in Vinni, Tartu and Oisu are running to our complete satisfaction, so we have once again chosen EnviTec as our project partner for our fourth project,” says Martti Talgre.

The gas upgrading plants in Tartu and Oisu were recently expanded to a capacity of over 500 Nm³/h of biomethane each. Thanks to the cooperation between Eesti Biogas OÜ, a company of the Infortar Group, and EnviTec, 430 GWh of biomethane have now been supplied to the Estonian transport sector.
