Market potential for biomethane, especially abroad
With three new plant construction contracts and an imminent market entry in Lithuania, EnviTec Biogas AG is starting the new year on a strong footing, “but ongoing global conflicts as well as political uncertainties in Germany give cause for long-term concern,” says CEO Olaf von Lehmden.
“In our view, all of the new government’s biogas-related legislative proposals are in urgent need of improvement,” adds CFO Jörg Fischer. Furthermore, the fact that the implementation of the energy transition, including the achievement of the climate targets set, is no longer at the top of the political agenda creates a challenge for the entire renewable energy sector. “All of this is leading to noticeable uncertainty and dampened investment activity in Germany, not only for us as a company, but for all market participants,” says Fischer.
“Biomethane is set to establish itself as a key energy source in the medium term!”
“Nevertheless, we believe biomethane is set to establish itself as a key energy source in the medium term, as it is already available and is the most cost-effective alternative to conventional natural gas from a macroeconomic perspective,” says CEO von Lehmden. “This is precisely what our European neighbors have recognized. In these countries, the biomethane market is developing steadily compared to Germany,” adds Fischer. Growth markets for EnviTec Biogas include the Benelux countries, Sweden, and Spain, as well as existing markets in the Baltic states, Slovakia, Italy, France, and the United Kingdom.
New momentum is also expected from LIQVIS, which was acquired by Uniper a year ago, and its 18 LNG filling stations. “Following relocation, a plant is expected to commence operations in Holdorf, Lower Saxony, in the first quarter. With our filling station network, we offer the entire value chain from livestock farming to biogas production, biomethane for heat and power generation, and green fuels, all through our own companies and from a single source – making us a pioneer in the market,” concludes von Lehmden.
