EnviTec moves into biomethane trading

06/10/2022

“It’s the first biomethane purchasing contract we’ve signed,” says Olaf von Lehmden, CEO of EnviTec Biogas AG. To date, EnviTec has only marketed biomethane from its own plants.  Von Lehmden is talking about the agreement recently inked with NRW-based Loick Bioenergie GmbH for the delivery of the green energy all-rounder biomethane. “We’re very pleased to have found a reliable and highly innovative partner in EnviTec, whom we already know well from our many years in the biogas industry,” says Olaf Brandes, Commercial Director at Loick Bioenergie GmbH. The agreement covers the supply of a total of 90 GWh of biomethane per year from the three biogas plants operated by Loick Group in Heiligengrabe, Hennstedt and Hünxe. The total contract value is more than EUR 100 million.

Most of the biomethane supplied will be used from 2024 onwards as an input for the bio-LNG liquefaction plant operated by BALANCE EnviTec Bio-LNG in Berlin-Ahrensfelde. “The future’s bright for plant operators with our most recent joint venture,” says Markus Pille, Managing Director of EnviTec Energy GmbH & Co. KG and BALANCE EnviTec Bio-LNG GmbH. “Our customers can either sell their biomethane to EnviTec directly or utilise our liquefaction plant capacity and then market the resulting bio-LNG product themselves.”

Loick is already a customer of EnviTec’s plant construction division and two of its plants are now being fitted with the innovative EnviThan gas upgrading system from EnviTec. Loick Bioenergie GmbH currently operates biogas plants in several German states with a total nominal output of roughly 30 MWel. The Group is now starting to convert its power generation plants to biomethane plants. As a long-term buyer for the biomethane produced, EnviTec provides the planning security needed for this project.
