Green fuel for heavy-duty transport – price-stable and low-emission
Lohne/Saerbeck, 19 March 2026 Price-stable, low-emission and energy-efficient – this is the green fuel Bio-LNG. While current geopolitical developments continue to drive up fuel and natural gas prices, Bio-LNG conditions remain independent of the global gas price index and are therefore subject to significantly lower volatility than conventional LNG. Bio-LNG is the liquefied form of biogas, produced through the fermentation of agricultural residues, manure, organic waste or sewage sludge.
“Compared to fossil LNG, it enables significant CO₂ savings, particularly in heavy-duty transport – a major advantage for companies with large fleets that prioritise emission reduction, security of supply and economic efficiency,” explains Frank Hinken, Managing Director of LIQVIS GmbH. Founded in 2015, LIQVIS has been operating under the umbrella of the EnviTec Biogas Group since 2025. “We currently operate a total of 15 LNG filling stations across Germany – primarily at strategic transport hubs with particularly high HGV volumes – and the trend is rising,” Hinken adds.
Long ranges and low feedstock transport costs
There are currently more than 200 Bio-LNG filling stations across Germany. In addition to long ranges of up to 1,700 km, depending on the manufacturer, this low-emission fuel allows for quick refuelling in around 15 minutes and a stable price of below EUR 1/kg (net). “In contrast to diesel and petrol, which are heavily dependent on global crude oil prices, Bio-LNG is produced from locally available feedstocks. It is therefore not linked to international trading prices and also benefits from lower feedstock transport costs,” adds Olaf von Lehmden, CEO of EnviTec Biogas AG.
As part of EnviTec Biogas AG, LIQVIS has access to sufficient volumes of Bio-LNG across the European market from nearly 100 biogas production plants. “In addition, we can draw on substantial quantities from our BioEnergie Park Güstrow, Germany’s largest integrated Bio-LNG liquefaction facility,” von Lehmden continues.
“This enables us to further drive the decarbonisation of heavy-duty transport in Germany and across Europe,” says the CEO. With LIQVIS, the globally operating company headquartered in Lohne and Saerbeck is extending its value chain to include the operation of its own LNG filling stations. Further filling station projects are already in the pipeline.
